Nickita, MultiPotentialite Coach @ PassionsPilot.com discussed with MPM how she helps MultiPods build a life exploring their passions and interests.
When she started her blog in 2016, she conducted a survey to gauge the needs of MultiPods to better assist them in attaining their goals.
Participants responded initially with a universal complaint, “I don’t know what to do with my life!” While others expressed not knowing how to set priorities.
To a MultiPod, everything seems equally important. Armed with this data, Nikita dedicated her blog to organizing MultiPods and prioritizing tasks and timelines. While cheering them on as they achieved their goals.
“The bad news is: Time flies. The good news is: You’re the pilot!”
Nickita’s approach to teaching MultiPods balance in their daily lives is accepting “the laws of physics and nature”, she smiled. A MultiPod’s greatest fear was running out of time. But, she believes time optimization is the key to navigating MultiPods between projects in their passions portfolios.
But before MultiPods delve into their interests, she helps them identify their values and beliefs. When these are in alignment with their vision, MultiPods become grounded and confident to meet their objectives. Maslow’s ‘Pyramid of Needs’, the theory of human motivation formulated by observing man’s innate curiosity is a tool she utilizes to make choices when the basics are covered.
“You can only look for fulfilling, purposeful activities and all the nice-to-haves when you have reached a minimum level”, she said. And when MultiPods have difficulty making choices, Nickita gives them practical techniques to organize their passions and projects. “Knowing …the big picture enables MultiPods to make …choices”, she added.
“The key is not to prioritise what’s on your schedule but to schedule your priorities’”
Throughout Nickita’s working life, she has diligently applied her unique skill of combining all available options into solving a logistical problem. Her innovative and creative approach coupled with her curiosity makes her full-time position of IT Project Manager a great fit. “The tech field is so fast evolving with virtual reality and artificial intelligence, …it’s perfect for me”, Nickita said.
But, she remembers having a few uninteresting and non-creative administrative jobs. But believes her perseverance, the necessary certifications, and applying for better jobs have put her in a position where she is challenged professionally and creatively.
And, helping MultiPods on the side @passionspilot.com is icing on the cake. Nikita loves helping people do what makes them happy. In her work with MultiPods, she allows enough flexibility to suit a MultiPod’s need for choice and variety.
Nickita first became aware of her “MultiPotentiality” when she discovered Barbara Sher’s book, Refuse to Choose. The title resonated with her immediately. “It’s what I’ve been doing my whole life: Refusing to Choose,” Nickita said.
But, Emilie Wapnick’s TED Talk (Why some of us don’t find our true calling) is what struck Nickita most. “Getting interested in something. Diving in and getting all consumed. Getting good at it. Then getting bored. It happened to me so many times,” Nickita declared.
At school, she remembers not having a clue what she wanted to do with her life. “Minister of Foreign Affairs!”, she recalled blurting out. “What made you pick that career path?”, MPM laughed. “I guess I just had to come up with something”, she grinned. “I’m happy …it never happened, I never even tried to get into politics.”
“Life isn’t about finding yourself, it’s about creating yourself”
Working with MultiPods @ passionspilot.com and in her professional life has made her aware of the benefit of hiring MultiPotentialites.
But, she says, “Most people are unfamiliar with the term. HR professionals have never heard of generalist or a MultiPod”, Nickita exclaimed! “It’s critical to hire the right person for the job. Some positions …need a specialist. But there are jobs that would benefit …from people with a broad general knowledge”, she added.
Nickita is content and feels lucky she works with creative minds and out of the box thinkers. Innovative people who combine their skills and experience individually and in collaboration. I asked her if she felt a social movement towards “Multipotentiality”?
“People are beginning to recognize themselves as MultiPods/MultiPotentialites”, she said. It’s a trend she sees for freelance work, consultancy and solopreneur businesses. Perfect for multipotentialities to live their multi-potentiality …fast learners by default!”,Nickita confirmed.
